Often the photograph is the point: the car pulling up, the skyline behind it, the picture that ends up framed. These are the loveliest public places in Chicago to take it. Always follow local traffic and parking rules, stay off sidewalks and paths with the car, and respect private property. Commercial shoots can require city permits; check with the City of Chicago before planning a produced shoot.
1. Lower Wacker Drive
The multi-level road under downtown is famous from movies for a reason: concrete, green-tinted light and echoing exhaust. Shoot from a safe, legal stop; never stop in a live traffic lane.
2. The Chicago Riverwalk area
The Riverwalk itself is pedestrian-only, but the bridges and streets above it (Wabash, State, Dearborn) put the car against the river and the Wrigley Building and Marina City. Night is best.
3. The Chicago Theatre marquee on State Street
The iconic lit marquee makes a classic night backdrop. Shoot from the street side when the car is legally parked or with a quick rolling shot.
4. Navy Pier and the Streeterville lakefront
Lake views and the pier’s lights. Park in permitted garages and walk to the angles you want.
5. North Avenue Beach skyline view
The postcard view of the skyline from the north. Use nearby legal parking and shoot the car with the skyline over the lake at sunset.
6. Fulton Market murals
Street art and warehouse brick in the West Loop make a gritty contrast to a glossy supercar. Weekend mornings are quieter.
7. Adler Planetarium overlook
The full skyline across the harbor; arguably the best car-and-skyline angle in the city.
Tips for the shot
- Golden hour and blue hour beat midday.
- Shoot low and at three-quarter angles.
- A clean car photographs best; every car arrives detailed.
- Tag responsibly: if a post is sponsored, disclose it per FTC rules.
